Bettina Wackernagel

Bettina Wackernagel’s work is focused on contemporary, electronic music and media art. As a trained music-theatre director she premiered works for Münchner Biennale, Salzburger Festspiele and ars electronica. Along with her work for theatre and film, she curates and produces music festivals on aspects of contemporary music. Between 2013 and 2018, she served on Board of Directors of Berlin Society of New Music. She published on contemporary music and art, her current research is on the women of early electronic music and female contemporary music artists. She has received commissions from arts organisations worldwide, most recently in 2019 when she was awarded a research grant by the Berlin Senate for Culture and Europe. In 2014, she founded the Heroines of Sound Festival and to this day continues to be responsible for its artistic direction. The genre-spanning festival focuses on the female pioneers of electronic music while turning attention to the women of today’s music scene.
