Blerta Basholli

Blerta Basholli is a writer and director with a unique realistic visual style. Her stories touch upon social and gender issues in Kosovo, the country where she was born and raised. In 2008 she was awarded the Dean's Fellowship in the Film Graduate Program at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She lived in New York for four years where she had the opportunity to work on several film projects as a student. Her documentary Mirror, Mirror ... (2006) made the official selection at the 2006 Sarajevo Film Festival and many other film festivals. Her short film Gjakova 726 (2008) was shown at the 2009 editions of several festivals, such as the Rotterdam Film Festival, Toffifest and the Filmmor Women's Film Festival. Her short film Lena & Me (2010) received the Best Actress Award at the 9/11 Film Festival in 2012. In 2011, she returned to Kosovo and began working on Hive (2021), her debut feature film.
