Elena Messner

Elena Messner (she/her), born in 1983 in Klagenfurt, grew up in Klagenfurt, Ljubljana and Salzburg. She studied Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna (MA in 2007, PhD in 2012). During her studies, she carried out several research projects and guest studies in Aix-en-Provence, Zagreb, Sarajevo and Belgrade. Elena Messner is also active as a writer, translator, curator and editor. She has published several books. Awards: 2021 Literary Prize for Young Authors of the Land of Carinthia; 2022 Literature Fellowship of the City of Vienna; 2022–2023 Fellowship of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW); 2022–2023 Literature Fellowship of the Federal Ministry (BMKOES); 2022 Theodor-Körner Literary Prize.
