Koen Van Daele

Koen Van Daele has been working in the cultural field since the mid-80s. In 1984, he was employed at the Vlaams Theater Circuit. When the organisation was converted into the Vlaams Theater Instituut, he became its Head of their Audio-Visual Department. He was co-founder and co-director of the Brussels-based film and arts centre argos. He stayed at the head of the organisation until June 1993, when he moved to Slovenia. In 1995, Uršula Cetinski invited him to become part of the programme-selecting team preparing the first edition of City of Women. He was a founding member of the Društvo za promocijo žensk v kulturi. Van Daele co-curated the first eight editions of the festival. From 1999 to 2006, he was Head of the Programme Department of Slovenska Kinoteka. He was director of Zavod Otok and curated the 4th edition of Kino Otok. Since 2008, he has been an Assistant Director at the city cinema Kinodvor.

Throughout his career, he has been working as a freelance curator, programmer and programme-advisor for a variety of institutions and projects, including amongst others: the monthly documentary cycle D-Day: dan za dokumentarec, the documentary sections of Film Art Fest (today’s LIFFe) and the Video Film Dance Festival. His articles have been published in periodicals such as AS/Andere Sinema, Ekran, Muska, Glamur, Delo and Dnevnik. He launched the film magazine Kinotečnik and has edited numerous catalogues. He has served on several national and international boards, commissions, juries and selection committees.
