Miyuki Nishizawa

Miyuki Nishizawa (1968) is a Japanese performer, artist, fashion designer, art lecturer and improvisational dressmaker from Osaka. She is the leading member of Art Unidentified, which perpetuates the legacy of the famous Gutai Art Association. It is the mentorship of famous Gutai artist Shozo Shimamoto during her study of industrial design at Kansai Women’s Art College that determined her artistic method and medium. Designing newspaper dresses and sculpting huge paper sculptures in public spaces she became renowned by her artistic name Shinbun Onna – Newspaper Woman. In addition to drawing the audience in to participate in her public performances, she also organizes workshops teaching people about newspaper creations. As a renowned Japanese artist she performed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (2013) at the exhibition Gutai: Splendid Playground.
