Sorrel Hays

Sorrel Hays is an awarded American composer (American Music Centre, National Endowment for the Arts, New York Council on the Arts, Astraea, etc.) and lecturer (CUNY, Cornell College, Georgia State, etc.), who fuses her artistic expression with activism: she directed the first American lecture concert series on women’s music at the New School for Social Research, worked with the International League of Women Composers, and last but not least, her advocacy resulted in women being added to the Standard Awards Panel of ASCAP for the first time in its history. Her compositional progressiveness and political awareness place her among the crucial and pioneering artists of our time.
