The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie

Luis Buñuel
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie

FR/ES/IT, 1972, 105′, Slo. sub.

The master of cinematic surrealism offers a scathing satire of Spanish social mores and shows some of the medium’s finest dream (and dream-within-a-dream) sequences in this story of six upper-middle-class friends who repeatedly try to have dinner together but find their plans interrupted by various bizarre events. Luis Buñuel, who has never hidden his affinity for the spirit of May 68, surrealistically skewers the conventions of society and offers a wicked social satire, turning the establishment, from the police to the politicians, into criminals.
