Echo Archive

The material part of the work consists of an archive desk, soil, and three pairs of headphones with cables coming from the soil at the bottom of the desk. The non-material part is comprised of audio recordings of stories told by three females. The recordings speak of experiences these women went through at the age of 15. Their age in time when the experiences happened is significant as they relieve the actors of any responsibility for the circumstances they describe. The first story is my grandmother's experience as a 15-year-old girl during WW2 in 1943. The second is the experience of my mum as a 15-year-old in 1968 (Titograd, SFRY). The third story is my own experience from 1993 (breakup of Yugoslavia). All three stories share the same venue, with different times and circumstances. The work stretches through half a century, with about 25 years in between experiences; it happens in three different countries, three political systems and three different social surroundings.
