Ghetto Booties
The duo Ghetto Booties favours low-budget electronic dance
music and represents the sound part of the GNU Girl Power Lounge
collective from Zagreb, based on the "equal sharing of work, clothes,
cables, perfumes, lipstick, and open-source politics". Anja and Dina
perform their author samples via their portable computers, joined live by Irenah
and Lina, who represent the visual part of the collective with their
layering of images.
The GNU Girl Power Lounge gang collaborate with the Zagreb-based label EGOBOO.bits,
www.egoboobits.net,
operating in the complex of Mama multimedia centre and supporting the free (in
both senses of the word) exchange of ideas. In this way, they continue a
tradition from the pioneer age of computer technology, when computer software
development was possible only for those who understood that nobody can lay
claim to ideas the implications of which reach into the field of general
knowledge as soon as these ideas are publicly presented.
The EGOBOO.bits label was established by Tomislav Domes and Ivan
Slipčević in 2000-they are more commonly known as "Soundboats" on the
Croatian club scene. Apart from their "deep-house" project, the label
collaborates with other bands, including VJs, DJs DadaJihad, DishTone,
GongoPleon, LaBosh, Mind Taker & Richelleux, PlaZmatick, QweRty,
Sleepgolfer.
Ghetto Booties will perform with their full cast in the City of Women festival;
during their short musical history they have collaborated in the Otokultivator
summer workshops organised by Association for Culture Development from
Zagreb; they performed in Močvara (most recently, on the occasion of
this year's March 8 festivities); and last year they took part in the Steirischer
Herbst festival in Graz, as well as other performances, including an
appearance at 8th eco-cultural festival Ponikve and Zagreb festival Nikad
Čuo (Never Heard Of).
