Musica Femina
Music Exhibition // Selected portraits of composers from Austria and Slovenia
Exhibition opening on October 4th, at 20.00, open until October 13th, 2019.
The exhibition features the portraits of Austrian and Austria-based women composers, excerpts from their compositions and overviews of their oeuvres, ranging from film music to jazz, from contemporary music to experimental and electronic sounds. The Ljubljana exhibition is a fragment of Musica Femina – From Shadow to Light, a larger exhibition, curated by Irene Suchy and Clarisse Maylunas, which presented a historic overview of women composers in Schönbrunn, Vienna, in 2018.
The exhibition includes video interviews with Slovenian experimental female musicians: Nina Dragičević, Kaja Draksler, Maja Osojnik and Irena Z. Tomažin. They were interviewed by Tomaž Grom. Videos are part of e-journal Centralala.

Austrian Composer’s Association (ÖKB) presents film music by composers:

Austrian film maker Riha has invited contemporary composers to create music for his bird’s-eye view documentaries about the Austrian landscape. Johanna Doderer, the renowned composer of operas, orchestra and chamber music, was the only invited female composer.

CONCERT SERIES
Frauenstimmen, founded by Austrian singer and musicologist Eva Neumayr, is the only concert series focussing exclusively on works by female composers; songs, choirs, chamber music and orchestra music is presented up to ten times per year. The concert series is produced by Maria Anna Mozart Gesellschaft Salzburg, named after Mozart’s sister.

COMPOSERS FROM SLOVENIA
The collection of new video interviews with Slovenian musicians working in the field of experimental music comprises interviews with Nina Dragičević, Kaja Draksler, Maja Osojnik and Irena Z. Tomažin. They spoke about identity, inspiration, genders and quotas. The interviews were made by Tomaž Grom.
