Karen McCarthy
Karen McCarthy, the initiator, conceiver and editor of Bittersweet, was born in London to an English mother and Jamaican father. Karen has worked in publishing and the media for over ten years as a writer, publicist, broadcaster and editor. Following on from the success of Bittersweet, she is currently working on compiling a new short fiction anthology, again for The Women’s Press and a book on experiences of mixed-race identity, co-edited with Janet Kofi-Tsekpo (also featured in Bittersweet). Her script Selfish Underwear, which starred BBC Red Dwarf’s Danny John Jules, was showcased at the Oval House Theatre and her first television screenplay, Keeping Up with Ms Jones was commissioned by Channel 4.
