Ruth Selwyn: Lizika Lezbijka

Lizzy is a »foxy« lesbian who crushes all lesbian stereotypes; she speaks her mind and directly readdresses
lesbian sexuality. Through her frank declaration about the still tabooed lesbian world, the
character of Lizzy – who remains almost expressionless save for the exception of eye, mouth and hand
movement – is most ef fective. Visually simple, yes; but message-wise it is accomplished, with lots of
humour, irony, plays on words and - in par ticular - acuity. These animated s t and-up comedy shor ts by
the British director Ruth Selwyn are introduced at the Cit y of Women in collaboration with DokMa, the
documentar y film festival held in Maribor, Slovenia’s second cit y. This year, a special section of the main
programme will be dedicated to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual document aries.
