The Other Room
Rooted in the idea of the inescapability of failure, The Other Room is a performance which ‘fails to be’. In semi-darkness, a depersonalised figure with animal head and female body is trying to complete an impossible task – stand on a slippery ground. Each time a bright spotlight and haunting piano music interrupt her struggle, the artist tries to perform a tap dance, unsuccessfully. Stuck in the vicious cycle of absurd trials, the horsewoman repeatedly falls, and the pain is far way from being only physical. She is destined to remain just a beginner, incapable of moving any further, incapable of delivering her own piece. In spite of the impossibility to perform a basic human posture – stand on one’s feet – there’s something in the performer which doesn’t want to give up trying. (Milijana Babić)
