Presentation of the FEM Festival

FEM is an international performance art / live art festival showcasing the work of women and organised by Gresol Association. The first edition, curated by Denys Blacker and Anet van de Elzen was held in 2004 in la Bisbal d’Empordà and since 2006 FEM has continued in the town of Girona, Spain. The festival coincides every year with the International Women’s Day which is celebrated on March 8th.

The decision to hold a women’s event was not taken in order to underline any particular political standpoint, rather to affirm and to celebrate the freedom of expression that we are able to enjoy in Europe at this moment in history. In many other countries around the world women's voices are silenced by censorship, war and poverty. We feel that it is important to exercise our right, as women, to personal expression through our uncensored contemporary art practise.

Denys Blacker presents an audio visual journey through the seven years of the festival showing the work of artists who have taken part and talking about their work the festival.

Organisation: City of Women; In collaboration with: Kinodvor.
