Between the Lines
Imagine you are the spectator kidnapped by a fortune-teller with a veiled face. Taken away to a dark alcove, there appears before you the moving, silent and covered face of a gypsy, a virtual double, an avatar in 3D. The lines of your hand are examined closely by a small camera manipulated by the performer. Once your lines have been read, the virtual double comes to life and announces her prediction via a genuine Romany gypsy tarot.
From traditions passed down the generations, Maflohé Passedouet offers us fortune-readings of hand lines in real-time using interactive technology. A hand placed in the centre of the installation expresses man’s implicit presence with the touch, grip, construction and direction. The hand and the brain are as one. The performance is based on technical programming that allows the recognition of language and the reading of real-time sound.
The gypsy can caress as well as kill, becoming a representative privileged by nascent thought. (Maflohé Passedouet)
