WHERE IS THE CITY OF WOMEN?

Through the art project by a renowned Slovenian designer Tanja Radež, the Association for the Promotion of Women in Culture – City of Women launched the activities within the Red Dawn above the City of Women project co-organised with Red Dawns that will take place in October. The intervention at ten different locations in Ljubljana can be visited until 15th August.

In the production of the City of Women, the designer, Tanja Radež carried out the art intervention that can be seen at ten different locations in Ljubljana. She used bill boards aimed at advertising and the intervention within the urban space questions the position of women in the society which has been attributed a certain degree of emancipation, awareness and equality. Through her project, the designer faces random passers-by with a question whether women have already won their position in the society; whether drawing attention to the discrimination taking place within the neo-liberal system is out of place or legitimate and necessary. Many designers consider a poster one of the most respectable media thus Tanja Radež engaged in the design of the summer series of the City of Women posters in a unique and relaxed way and intended the topical messages communicated in the street language – as part of intimacy – to the general public.

Tanja Radež's project is an introduction to the October festival events characterised by a joint project organised by City of Women and Red Dawns called Red Dawn above the City of Women co-funded by the EU. The various publics will be able to attend the events at the 19th International Festival of Contemporary Arts – City of Women (October 3rd – 13th) and the 15th International Feminist and Queer Festival Red Dawns (October 12th – 26th). The festival themes within the joint project will in a continuous form through the works of different Slovenian and foreign artists bring to the capital of Ljubljana a great variety of events that can legitimately compete with such similar European and world festivals. This year's City of Women edition will address the position of women in the society and under the title "Let’s Create a Place for Ourselves" call upon the public for a more engaged form of activity and reflection.
