Contexter vs. Discoursor

A performance/pseudo-lecture showing “those who create the art context” and “the art discourse” as people practicing a disciplinary measures. In Discipline and Punish Foucault mentions three key elements of which the disciplinary power is constituted. The same three elements are given to the Contexter’s and Discoursor’s "powers"- hierarchical observation, normalizing judgment and examination.

According to these elements observation and gaze are key instruments of power, and through them the notion of the norm is being constituted. Even though the world around us consists of units of measurable data, those who have the access to this data are not as powerful as those who know how to use it in their favor. The Contexter and the Discoursor are trying to impose this kind of control onto the material world by controlling the data that artefacts produce. The Contexter and the Discoursor are ironically shown as creatures of aggressive nature, who actively impose themselves on public life and thinking. (Ephemerki)
