Femkanje – Radio Mapping the Independent Scene

Femkanje is a radio show and a platform designed to improve and strengthen the independent cultural and art scene by promoting gender equality and creating media coverage for presentation, networking and education of young primarily female as well as male authors from Serbia and the ex-Yugoslavian region.

Installation Femkanje - Radio Mapping the Independent Scene is an audio-visual map of more than 60 female (and male) authors and collectives active on the independent arts and cultural scene of Serbia and beyond. Visual map is a graphical representation of all the interviewed guests, showing their short profiles and mutual collaborations. An audio map follows the visual with speakers on each of the points playing the corresponding interview. All of the recordings are played simultaneously filling the space with noise and creating a cocktail party effect in the attempt of portraying the independent scene as a whole. The installation will be followed by printed materials and an interactive digital map available for browsing the database and listening to the complete Femkanje's podcast. In the course of the exhibition we plan on broadcasting a guest show on Radio Študent noting the atmosphere and interviewing present artists and the crew of the City of Women festival. (Femkanje)
