Jelena Popržan
Jelena Popržan, the Austria-based Serbian musician, is an inventive arranger and expressive voice artist emphasizing humour and political messages. Over a decade ago, she co-founded the Catch-Pop String-Strong duo with Rina Kaçinari, which gained international recognition. Jelena Popržan continued her musical path in the Austrian off theatre, the world-music quartet Madame Baheux and the band Sormeh. A big connoisseur of genres, she explores the numerous relationships between the “forgotten tradition and unforgettable novelties”. Jelena Popržan has received a number of awards, including the Vojin Draškoci Prize awarded by the World Music Association of Serbia and several Austrian World Music Awards. The play Das große Heft, on which she collaborated as composer, musician and actress, was nominated for the Nestroy Prize for best off production.
