Barbara Orel

Barbara Orel is an associate professor of Performing Arts as well as the head of the research group at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana. Her main areas of research are experimental theatre, avant-garde movements and performance across disciplines. She has published on the politics of representation and perception, audience building and intercultural exchange, and has also contributed to the journals Performance Research and Theatre and to the book Playing Culture: Conventions and Extensions of Performance (2014). She co-founded the journal of performing arts theory Amfiteater (editor, 2008–2010) and curated the Slovenian national theatre festivals the Week of Slovenian Drama (Teden slovenske drame) in 2006 and 2007, and The Maribor Theatre Festival (Borštnikovo srečanje) in 2008 and 2009.
