Maiden, Mother, Crone

Calling on old pagan mythology both physically and lyrically, Jordan Reyne performs as “the Crone” on stage; a horned witch whose stories are told on her current EP trilogy “Maiden, Mother, Crone”. Invoking both mystery and rage, the hag is a performance based on both music and drama. Far from the passive female forms so often seen in folk music, Jordan is a figure of mystery, an object of fear, and a storyteller with passion and rancour.

“Quixotic soundscapes of arabesque splendour... utterly beguiling.- Gig Junkies (UK)

Jordan performs alone on stage, drawing the listeners focus immediately into the world of fable and story. Despite being the solo performer, her sound is huge - a towering and dramatic mix of vocals, rhythmic loops, and guitar melody building to crescendo as her stories proceed…Each performance is therefore unique, with open tunings, layers of harmony and rhythm all woven beneath lyrics that twist the ancient into modern form.

Jordan's latest project is a trilogy of EPs entitle “Maiden”, “Mother”, and “Crone”. The lyrics are short stories combining old pagan narratives with modern perspectives on women. Maiden, Mother, and Crone looks at the tales of real people through the lens of folklore and archetypes, encouraging us to think of how our judgements of others are still shaped by old ways of seeing.
