Conference:

dom, Prešernova 10, Ljubljana

Organised by Društvo za nenasilno
komunikacijo, Evropski Forum za demokracijo in solidarnost vzhodno in srednjeevropska mreža za enake možnosti spolov, Male Network Against Violence

Women’s movement has succeeded in bringing domestic violence
to the public attention. A lot has been done already: shelters, preventive
programs for young people, phone help, counseling, therapy groups and advocacy…
Nevertheless, the problem is far from being solved. To take steps against
violence remains difficult for every victim. One of the things that the women’s
movement in Slovenia is trying to do is to get men involved into solving
problems and reducing consequences of violence. With that in mind the
conference Men are against Violence too is organized. Three Swedish activists
from the Male Network against Violence
will present the following subjects: Nicklas
Kelemen
: The heritage of the patriarchy, practical examples from the multicultural
project; Bjorn Hoffman: Father
education in theory and practice; Vidar
Vetterfalk
: Young men’s search for male identity, young boy’s need for the
male role model. It is important, that men who are interested in facts and
consequences of violence and changes in traditional gender roles, attend this
conference in as large number as possible.
