ICA & No Alternative Girls

The Institute of Contemporary Arts in London
is one of Europe’s leading arts venues. Its
forward-looking programme of Cinema, Live Arts, Exhibitions and Talks presents
the newest issues and freshest approaches being adopted by international
artists. The role of the ICA
is to engage, challenge and inspire. The ICA
upholds an equal opportunities policy and has a particularly strong interest in
presenting women artists.
ICA Interaction presents a selection of women’s work shown at the ICA in the past 5 years.
The Institute had the pleasure of welcoming some of the most eminent
contemporary artists and thinkers including Laurie Anderson, Patti Smith,
Vivienne Westwood, Marina Abramovic, Karen Finley, Abigail Lane, Helen
Chadwick, Nan Goldin, to name but a few. In this presentation Lina Russel will
concentrate on 2 ICA-programmes: Jezebel and on Bad Girls.
No Alternative Girls
is a touring video package of women’s performance,
films and rock music. Programmed around a wide variety of issues, such as
sexuality, social injustice, urban existence, violence, rape, addiction and
madness, the programme ranges from films by different women film-makers, to the
spoken word confrontationalist Lydia Lunch and ground-breaking performer
Diamanda Galas. From the controversial pleasure activist Annie Sprinkle to the
legend of New York
underground film-making Beth B. including a selection of video-clips by the
most exciting female bands of the indie rock scene, this programme encompasses
the work of the leading figures of today’s avant-garde.
The films and videos presented during this presentation are also
available for viewing at the City of Women
VideoLibrary.
