Angela Melitopoulos

Born in Munich, director Angela Melitopoulos studied fine arts with Nam June Paik at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf. She has been working with electronic media since 1986 and has created experimental single-channel tapes, video installations, video-essays and documentaries.
From 1986 to 1995, she lived and worked in Paris, where she co-founded, with Maurizio Lazzarato, the media collectives Canal Déchainé and Chaos Media. (During the Gulf War, they made videos with Felix Guattari, Serge Daney, and others.) During this period, she created several videos in collaboration with the American Center, the CICV, La Villette, and INA. Her videos are regularly shown at international video festivals, such as the World Wide Video Festival in Amsterdam, the Video Festival Locarno, the EMAF Festival in Osnabrück, as well as in museums, such as the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), The Whitney Museum (New York), and the Musée d’Art Moderne (Montreal).
