Šejla Kamerić

Šejla Kamerić, born in Sarajevo, is a visual artist whose practice involves film, photography, objects, drawings and installations. She has earned widespread acclaim for the poignant intimacy and social commentary that have become the main elements of her work. Taking up the subjects that arise from non-linear historical narratives, as well as personal histories, Kamerić lays emphasis on the politics of memory, the modes of resistance in human life and the idiosyncrasies of women’s struggle. By insisting on empathy as the founding communicative mechanism between herself, her subjects and spectators, she calls attention to, and at the same time creates, powerful political statements. Šejla Kamerić’s works are part of numerous international art collections, such as the TATE Modern in London, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville in Paris, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, MACBA in Barcelona, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb.
