Irena is a chemist who is trying to find a method for preserving ink on old documents. Her passion stems from her desire to preserve her grandmother’s letters which she wrote home while working in Alexandria. (Alexandrines, as they were called, were women from the Primorska region of Slovenia, who went to work as nurses for children of rich families in Egypt to support their own families at home.) Irena is hurt by her husbands’ infidelity, but in spite of that she believes that today, it is possible to have a career as well as a family since times have changed. Have they really?
