Gabi, Between Ages 8 and 13
Gabi just wants to be Gabi. A simple wish one would think, but as it turns out, it is not. A moving story of a Swedish teenager called Gabi trying to express her identity in a society based on gender-specific roles.
The movie follows Gabi’s growing up between the ages of 8 and 13, as she faces social stereotypes and expectations. She is energetic and feels that she is different from the other girls. She is not afraid to speak her mind when it comes to what she thinks is wrong with the world, and in particular, how there should be no differences between boys and girls. When her family moves from Stockholm to a small town in the countryside and Gabi hits puberty, she must decide whether to follow her own path. The portrait of Gabi between the ages of 8 and 13 is about how to stay true to oneself.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Sara Šabec and Ingo Vitman Öri.
