Jan Lazardzig

Jan Lazardzig is a Theatre Studies professor at the Freie Universität Berlin (since 2017). He obtained his PhD in 2006 with a dissertation on seventeenth century theatre machinery. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Chicago (2011–2013) and associate professor for Theatre Studies at the University of Amsterdam (2013–2017). Between 2009 and 2012, he was a co-convener for the Historiography Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR). Recent publications include an introduction to theatre historiography (2012, co-authored by Matthias Warstat and Viktoria Tkaczyk), a study on post-war German theatre architecture (2012, co-authored by Claudia Blümle), a book on seventeenth century stage machinery (2016, co-authored by Hole Rößler) and most recently, a trilingual study of the works of French philosopher of images and of public festival organiser, Claude-François Ménestrier (1631–1705). He is currently writing a book on the history of Theatre Studies in Germany (between Kaiserreich and Federal Republic).
