Hans Scheirl

Hans Scheirl is a transgender, trans-media artist, who has worked in avant-garde cinema, super-8 film, video, performance, fluxus, pornographic text, manifesto, drawing, installation & experimental music. Scheirl's films have been presented at film festivals and art institutions around the world (including: the Museum of Modern Art, N.Y.C.; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Image Forum, Tokyo; the Institute for Contemporary Arts, London; the Museum of 20th Century, Vienna). In recent years Scheirl has mainly focussed on painting acrylic on canvas. He is from Salzburg, Austria (b. 1956) and studied art restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and Fine Art at Saint Martin's College in London. He has been living in London for many years.
