Feminist Curating and Curating the International Festival of Contemporary Arts City of Women

City of Women is one of the oldest festivals/organizations that has been evolving for more than thirty years, showcasing artistic practices by women, feminist art, and art created by women and gender-nonconforming individuals. In addition to gender, it also addresses intersectional topics such as class, sexual orientation, and ethnicity, which are inseparable from gender. City of Women is a pioneering organization of this kind in Slovenia and beyond. The organization’s and festival’s archive is a rich resource of artists, artistic practices, and curatorial strategies.

In the Feminist Curating workshop, we will delve into selected practices presented at the International Festival City of Women throughout its history and reflect on the specific approaches of feminist curating within the festival. We will discuss the inclusion of marginalized voices, gender equality, and how feminist curating shapes the cultural sphere.
