Valie Export
Born in the Austrian city of Linz in 1940, Valie Export was one of the pioneers of feminist video art of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as a leading innovator in the use of modern technology in the visual arts. She has created video installations, body performances, expanded cinema, feature and experimental films, documentaries, photography, sculptures and publications covering contemporary art and feminism. A 1964 graduate of Vienna’s Technical School for Textiles, her work has been exhibited worldwide, including Documenta 6, and, together with Maria Lassnig, represented Austria at the Venice Biennial. Between 1995 and 2005, Export was professor of Multimedia Performance at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
