The Landscapes Are Weeping In Our Dreams
Slovenian visual artist and filmmaker Katarina Jazbec, based in Rotterdam, led a two-part workshop titled Sharing Dreams with a Multispecies World as part of the City of Women Festival 2024 in Ljubljana.
The workshop was inspired by the ritual of sharing dreams, intuitions, and nightmares. During the sessions, participants explored both likely and unlikely connections between the social role of nocturnal dreaming and our interspecies relationships. In the first part of the workshop, participants read excerpts from authors such as Robin Wall Kimmerer, Donna Haraway, and James Bridle. For the following 17 nights, they documented their dreams, paying close attention to the appearances of animals, stones, nature, technology, and groups of people. During the second session, participants shared their dreams with one another, identifying similarities and connections. The workshop concluded with a brief shared sleep session in the Škuc Gallery. Based on the discussions and dream recordings captured daily by Ana Lorger on an audio recorder, a sound composition was created, titled The Landscapes Are Weeping In Our Dreams.
Dreamers: Alenka Guček, Ana Lorger, Katarina Jazbec, Katja Lenarčič, Urša Kanjir, Urška Savič, Sebastian Krawczyk
Music: shape(s)witch
The composition also incorporates field recordings from the Warsaw train station and hydrophone recordings from the Koseze Pond, captured with the assistance of biologist Ana Lokovšek. Thank you!
