On the Ground (Na tleh) is a stage production by longtime collaborators, creators, and friends Alenka Marinič and Maja Dekleva Lapajne. This down-to-earth concert-performance explores themes of precarity, feminism, labor, motherhood, and existence in late capitalism with a personal and humorous approach. It is a vibrant music-theatre event that captures the state of affairs, voices the obvious, and—rather than offering solutions—leaves space for collective questioning, all while finding playfulness even in the darkest of times.

Through a fusion of music and theatre, the creators play with the various meanings of the phrase on the ground. They touch on exhaustion, despair, and the feeling of being stuck—collapsed under the weight of brutal, escalating capitalism, climate change, corporate dominance, and cuts to social benefits. At the same time, they explore the ground as a source of grounding and support—something to stand firmly on, to push off from, and ultimately to resist. And finally, the ground is also the soil from which new ideas and spaces emerge.
On the Ground is the second part of a trilogy by performance artists Maja Dekleva Lapajne and Alenka Marinič. In 2017, they debuted the performance and music album Underwater (Pod vodo) and soon after conceived a three-part creative journey: Underwater, On the Ground, In the Air. They also dream of an epilogue, Underground (Pod zemljo), which may one day be performed by just one of them—or perhaps even without their physical presence in this world.
