Teaching material: Art Mediation as a Method for Gender Reflection

Art practice and the creative process go beyond theoretical debates and help us reflect on social paradoxes through images. Instead of closing them off, questions are opened up and offer an opportunity for creative discussions and discovering contradictions, doubts, and ambivalence that transcend restrictive and exclusionary possibilities. Art and artistic practice open up space for freedom, safety, possibility, empathy, overcoming internal and personal challenges, and simultaneously changing social foundations.

This handbook thus provides participants and moderators with an opportunity to question gender and its restrictive identifications, and opens up space for discussion, questioning, and renouncing roles, commandments, and compulsions.
